Armstrong rehab complicated by wife's serious illness

Friends of Team Canada skip Jim Armstrong have known for some time that his wife Carleen has been fighting cancer and is very seriously ill. I have considered this a private family matter and have chosen to make no more than passing reference to Carleen's plight.

Today's Vancouver Sun carries a story by Al Cameron, describing in detail with numerous quotes from Jim, what the Armstrongs have been facing since Carleen's diagnosis.

There is a legitimate interest in any issue that might affect Jim's availability for selection, though personally I am going to leave it at his assurance to me last week that he will be ready and able to participate come March 2010.

I'm sure everyone reading this sends their best wishes to both Carleen and Jim as they face their medical challenges.

There, obviously, is little to comment to this story, other than, I trust our whole community sends on our best and love to Jim and his family in these very times.

We certainly have to be appreciative of what both Jim and Carleen have done for our Sport.

Perhaps through this website we can allsend our best to the Armstrong Family.

As sad as this story is, it once again shows us the media attention Jim brings to us.

Wishing Jim and Carleen the very best in the future.

I haven't checked, but isn't Al Cameron the writer that picked up Jim's cause of getting approved for play?

Is he not Bruce Cameron's(Ottawa) nephew?

He, I believe has provided quite a bit of ink for Jim,and consequently, us.

Hello, Eric:

Any news on Jim's shoulder?

I understand he will not startin Osoyoos this weekend....

A friend of mine NEVER recoved from shoulder surgery

I undrtand Jim's shoulder, as of this past weekend is still immobilized....any idea what options the coaches have considered?

Surely they are not hiding their head with the hopes that Jim will bail them out again.......

Ran into Jim today. Needless to say, he looks VERY uncomfortable, and seemed to be very guarded about the future. I get the feelingthat he will not be even close to being available for some time yet.

Brings us back to the question.......what have the coaches done to minimize an obvious impact?

All the best to Jim and Carleen....they are good people.

Any news on contingencies, SHOULD Jim be unavailable?

The only real person regarding skip with any real experience is DAW,

I undertsand him and Jim met last week so something may be in the works.

Hold it...you are suggesting Armstrong met with Daw??????

Now that would be interesting to follow up

can confirm that Jim met Chris at his office over at the Vancouver Curling Club. They spoke for about an hour but when I ask Chris what they spoke about h would not even confirm he met with Jim even though I saw them speaking in his office.

So what is up , I have no idea!!

Chris seems to be very soft spoken and will not confirm anything. He seems very protective from what he once was....very odd not the Chris Daw I know or knew at all!
