Dr. Krassioukov, a UBC professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, claims that some competitors with spinal cord injuries are taking extreme actions to increase blood pressure and improve athletic performance. He is proposing that curling teams be included in a study at the 2010 Paralympics that may help adjust International Paralympic Committee classifications to discourage athletes from feeling they have to break their toes to win medals.
