Deadline Monday December 22nd for BC playdowns

CurlBC have finally abandoned selection camps, this year allowing a playdown to decide who goes to the 2009 Nationals in Halifax in March.

The deadline for registration is Monday December 22, and competition is slated to take place in Vernon, January 16-18.

Because of the mandate for mixed gender teams, participation is restricted by the number of women available to play. Four teams, including Jim Armstrong's 2008 national champions, are expected, and by agreement with Team Canada coaches, no more than two TC squad members may play on any one team.

Teams (unconfirmed):
Jim Armstrong, Frank LaBounty, Whitney Warren, Jackie Roy
Darryl Neighbour, Ina Forrest, Bob MacDonald, Rich Green
Gerry Austgarden, Sonja Gaudet, Ron Vaselenak, Cyril Kinakin/Jim Miller
Gary Cormack. Bill Lindstrom, Roy Crawford, Corinne Jensen

Pretty watered down teams, in my opinion...so ends B.C.'s dominance of the Naionals.

Yep, that is the end of B.C.

Brings back the argument of Team Canada competing....could validate the selection process, as well as how everyone compares to our international representatives.

Jim Armstrong's team are the defending national champions. Which of the other BC teams look likely to beat him? And if Armstrong wins in Vernon, which provincial team looks to have improved enough to take the title away?

Darryl Neighbour has a much stronger third in Ina.

I doubt Jim can do it all by himself

Darryl Neighbour will win easily...Jim cannot do it all alone

The Canadian team was not chosen through Canada wide tournaments, as the regular curlers olympic teams are and the some of the curlers on the team are not actually wheel chair confined to any great extent.
They are good, but how they were chosen should be challenged. But who would dare.
Let's see if you have the nerve to pint this opinion from one who does qualify as disabled and plays with others who are good and qualified enough and to tryout, but are never 'invited to'.
Prove me wrong.
