Armstrong's fake Viagra saga ends without restitution to drug companies.

At a hearing before US Fedral Judge Ricardo Martinez in Seattle WA Tuesday, Jim Armstrong and his son Gregory were not ordered to pay the $44,000 restitution requested by the manufacturers of Viagra and Ciallis pills, fake versions of which formed the basis of the Armstrong's convictions last February.

Defense lawyers argued that restitution was not appropriate as the fake pills had been seized from Jim Armstrong before they could be smuggled into Canada and sold by Gregory in Vancouver nightclubs.

Jim has said in interviews that he has a full explanation for his actions, but has not yet felt able to present it, in part out of concern for the welfare of his son, who is in an American prison serving a 12 month sentence.

So, what exactly is going on with this case?

Jim's son is currently serving a one year prison sentence in Washington State. Jim has offered no public comment to me on his sentencing other than to suggest that when he has the opportunity to give his side of the story, his actions will be seen in a more favourable light. Jim's teammates, coaches and the CCA consider the case closed.

Jim has told me he has a detailed statement prepared, and I have offered him the opportunity to have it published in full. His concern, when we last communicated about the absence of a public apology or explanation of his actions from him, was that any statement may have unwanted ramifications for his imprisoned son.

So in short, I think teammates, coaches and the CCA are hoping that all will be forgotten and the entire incident will just go away.

I talked with Jim a few weeks ago. His son has been transferred to Mississippi. He indicated again that there is so much to say, and more so on his son's behalf, but nothing will come out until Greg is back in Canada.

I understand that Team Canada is going to have a couple of camps in Edmonton over the summer.

Jim has confirmed the accuracy of Craig's post and told me that "interesting scenarios" were developing.
